// The PS5-specific issue

Liquid metal pump-out.

Sony put liquid metal on the PS5's APU instead of traditional thermal paste. It conducts heat extraordinarily well when applied correctly — better than any paste — but over thousands of hours of thermal cycling it can migrate, leaving patches of the chip without proper thermal contact.

The symptoms: overheating during demanding games, louder-than-normal fan, random thermal shutdowns, and in severe cases, thermal damage to the console. It's one of the most common long-term failure modes on launch-era PS5s.

Reapplication requires a full teardown, complete cleaning of both contact surfaces with proper solvents, isolation of nearby board components (liquid metal is conductive and can short things out), and a very precise reapplication. Done right, the console runs cool and quiet for years again.

Stage 01

Diagnosis

Verify thermal behavior under load before committing to the repair.

Stage 02

Teardown

Complete disassembly with photo documentation of the APU condition.

Stage 03

Clean & protect

Isolate surrounding components. Clean old liquid metal with proper solvents.

Stage 04

Reapplication

Precise, even reapplication. Reassemble and stress-test for 30 minutes.

Intake & inspect
Walked in or shipped in. We photograph condition, record the symptom in writing, and log it into the work queue. The console is powered on at the bench and the symptom is verified before anything else happens.
II
Free written diagnosis
Within 48 hours, you get a written assessment: what's wrong, what parts are needed, what labor is involved, the quoted price, and the expected turnaround. You approve in writing before any paid work starts.
III
Bench repair
Real tools: microscope for board-level, hot air for HDMI, thermal station for liquid metal work, and proper reassembly with fresh pads where needed. No rushed kitchen-table repairs.
IV
Test & handoff
Every console is stress-tested under load for 30+ minutes before pickup. We text when it's ready. 90-day warranty starts from the day you pick up.

What is PS5 liquid metal pump-out and why does it matter?
Sony used liquid metal thermal compound instead of traditional paste on the PS5's APU. It conducts heat better than paste when applied correctly, but over thousands of hours of thermal cycling, the liquid metal can migrate unevenly, leaving patches of the chip without proper thermal contact. Symptoms include overheating, loud fan noise, and thermal shutdowns during gameplay. The fix is a complete teardown, thorough cleaning, and careful reapplication of new liquid metal with proper isolation of nearby board components.
How much does PS5 HDMI repair cost?
PS5 HDMI port replacement runs $189 at our shop. The repair involves desoldering the damaged HDMI port using hot air at controlled temperatures, cleaning the solder pads, and soldering a new port with proper alignment. Done correctly, the repair is permanent and outlasts the rest of the console. Covered by a 90-day warranty on parts and labor.
My PS5 makes loud beeps then shuts off. What is that?
PS5 beep codes indicate specific hardware faults. One beep followed by shutdown usually points to overheating or a thermal sensor issue. Two or three beeps with a red or blue indicator light often point to power supply or disc drive errors. Any consistent beep pattern warrants a free diagnostic — the pattern tells us roughly where to look so we can confirm the issue quickly.
Can you fix DualSense controller drift?
Yes. DualSense drift is caused by wear in the thumbstick potentiometer. Over thousands of hours of gameplay, the contact inside the stick module wears down and the console reads movement that isn't there. We replace the worn thumbstick module with a new assembly and recalibrate. $69 per controller, usually same-day or next-day turnaround, with a 90-day warranty.
Do you repair the PS5 Slim detachable disc drive?
Yes. PS5 Slim disc drives are paired to the console via Sony's authentication system, so a random used drive from another console won't work as a drop-in replacement. We handle both drive repair where possible (worn belts, laser pickup assemblies) and drive replacement with proper re-pairing through Sony's authentication flow.
Will repairing my PS5 erase my games or save data?
No. Our repairs are hardware-only and don't touch the internal SSD. Your installed games, saves, trophies, and PlayStation Network account data are preserved. As an extra safety net, PlayStation Plus cloud saves back up your important games to PSN — always a good idea to verify those are enabled before any service on any console.
Can I ship my PS5 in for repair?
Yes. Ship to 261 S 4th Street, Whitewater, WI 53190. Ship the console only — not cables, controllers, or games unless they're part of the issue. Pack it well and insure for replacement value. Include a note with name, phone, email, and a short description of the symptom. We confirm receipt on arrival and send a free written diagnosis within 2 business days.
What's your warranty on PS5 repairs?
Every PS5 repair is covered by a 90-day warranty on parts and labor. If the same issue comes back within that window, we fix it at no additional charge. The warranty covers what we repaired; new or unrelated issues that appear later aren't covered, but we'll always give you an honest diagnosis.
Is PS5 repair worth it vs buying a new console?
For most common PS5 repairs — HDMI ($189), disc drive ($169+), liquid metal ($149), fan service ($99) — yes. A new PS5 retails around $499 and a PS5 Pro is closer to $699, so repair typically saves $300 or more and preserves your game saves, installed games, and digital library. If a repair doesn't make financial sense for your specific situation, we'll tell you honestly during the free diagnosis.
